It is free of the side effects of most diuretics, and is somewhat similar in properties to marshmallow. It is a good harmonizing herb for most kidney formulas. It is sattvic in nature and promotes clarity. Taken as a milk decoction it is a strong aphrodisiac. With equal amounts of dry ginger, it relieves nerve and back pain. With equal amounts of ashwagandha powder, three grams twice a day, it is a powerful revitalizer. The oil is good for alopecia and premature balding.
Gokshura is a common weed in the United States called Goat Head or Puncture Vine, whose powerful medicinal qualities appear unknown here. Another important tonic and rejuvenative for the kidneys is punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa). It is usually used with gokshura in diuretic formulas.

Neem is one of the most powerful blood-purifiers in Ayurveda. It clears the toxins from the blood. It is a powerful febrifuge, effective in malaria and other intermittent and periodic fevers (in this case it is usually used with black pepper).
Neem can be taken whenever a purification or reduction program is indicated. It clears away all foreign and excess tissue, and posses a supplementary astringent action that promotes healing. Yet it should be used with discretion when there is severe fatigue or emaciation.
The anti-inflammatory effects of Neem coupled with it revitalizing and purgative effects on the liver render it a potent treatment for a great number of skin conditions. As a paste it is very effective against acne, chicken pox and measles, where its astringent and anti-bacterial qualities work well to encourage tissue regeneration. External treatment combined with internal treatment is also very effective for more serious skin and liver related conditions like leprosy, tuberculosis, and ophthalmia, an eye condition resulting from poor liver function. However, the healing effects of Neem benefit a variety of inflammatory conditions where the skin or mucous membranes have been damaged or irritated.
In addition, Neem benefits chronic and intermittent fever, which benefit from its blood purifying and anti-inflammatory effects. It has a cooling energy that helps to relax the body in the event of a fever. It has also been used effectively to treat Malaria in India for centuries, and is generally a good treatment whenever purification is needed. However, it should be used with discretion in cases of sever emaciation and fatigue.

Vacha is one of the most renowned herbs used for mental disorders and diseases of the nervous system. In Sanskrit vacha literally means speaking. It is a strongly aromatic, semi-aquatic perennial herb with a ginger-like stem which spreads into the ground. This rhizome part of the plant is of medicinal use.
Vacha (botanically known as Acorus calamus; Hindi — Bach) is one of the rare medicines which find mention in the Vedas. Later day acharyas worked to find more of its benefits not only to the brain and the nervous system but also to other parts of the body. It has been described as bitter and pungent in taste and hot, sharp, dry and light in effect. It alleviates kapha and vata but aggravates pitta. Dry rhizomes of vacha contain a yellow aromatic oil which is volatile. It also has a bitter substance known as acorin.
In the ayurvedic system vacha is used as a nervine tonic and an anti-stammering drug. Experimental studies have shown that it is a potent psycho-pharmacological agent having a positive effect on the memory and the learning process. Many ancient texts have described vacha as an anti epileptic and anti-hysteric herb. It is also known to possess carminative, digestive, diuretic and mildly sedative properties.
Though as a psychotropic medicine vacha is beneficial in cases of anxiety and depression, it is best used as a nervine tonic.
Ayurvedic texts suggest that it is the premium herb to be used in cases of mental retardation, stupor, syncope and epilepsy. It is helpful in many other problems like anorexia, chronic gas trouble, hypertension, sluggishness of the liver — and also in skin diseases.

Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) is the main Ayurvedic rejuvenative for the female-as is ashwagandha for the male. It is the foremost female uterine tonic. Primarily used as a menstrual regulator in dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia and menstrual irregularity. It is a rasayana for Pitta, for the female reproductive system, and for the blood. As pitta dosha moves in the blood and the arthavasrota- the menstrual channel- the cycle is often upset by irregularities involving excess heat. This heat can condense the blood (due to dehydration), cause it to move too quickly (due to its catalytic activity), cause it to overflow (due to its rebellious nature), cause inflammations (due to its irritating tendency). Shatavari, both nourishes and cleanses the blood and the female reproductive organs. It is a good food for menopause or for those who have had hysterectomies, as it supplies many female hormones. It nourishes the ovum and increases fertility, yet its quality is sattvic and aids in love and devotion. It also increases the production of breast milk during delivery.
Shatavari offers gentle support to help tone and strengthen the body, supporting soothing, restorative relief from PMS, menstrual, and menopausal imbalances in women. It aids during Pregnancy, reduces post partum bleeding, improves lactation and restores emotional feminine balance.
There are many benefits of Shatavari. It is the main herb for the treatment of female issues, just as ashwagandha is for males. It is the best uterine tonic and is primarily used for complications with menstruation and the uterus. It is a good source of phyto-estrogens, or naturally occurring plant made estrogens, which help to balance feminine functions, restoring regularity and easing associated discomforts. It is of great benefit to the uterus, renewing the uterine lining and helping to relax tension of the uterine and vaginal muscles. It also encourages the production of milk in lactating mothers. Its cooling energy is soothing to women in menopause and those who suffer from painful menstruation. As the Pitta dosha moves in the blood and the arthavasrota – the menstrual channel—the cycle is often upset by irregularities involving excess heat. This heat can condense the blood and cause it to move to quickly and overflow and accumulate, causing dangerous inflammations. Shatavari benefits the menstrual channels by both cleansing them and the blood and cooling and healing damaged tissues. It generally restores a natural balance to female hormones, thus Shatavari benefits functions like menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, nursing, menopause, and all associated conditions.
